The changes made to its materials flow system and associated information technology had a tremendous impact on MARQUETTE HELLIGE - manufacturers of electro-medical equipment based in Freiburg with a workforce of 800:
Within only a few months, job processing times in the pc board assembly plant were slashed from an average of 55 working days to below 10!
The in-process hours booked to the cost center were reduced from 5000 to 1000!
A high degree of flexibility was attained in the assembly process. The stocks of finished goods have been cut by more than 60%; problems with delivery times are now unheard of!

The practical approach in final assembly:
The manufacturing process is organized in group work, and the materials are assigned to the workstations in such a way that the assembly workers each have their materials close at hand. They take the materials from their storage units as they are needed.
Each group has Hänel's inventory management software, of which the most important functions are:
Online transfer of production orders from the host!
Inventory management for each storage location!
Combining small jobs to form a current work order covering several variants that are assembled together!
Issuing replenishment requests to the parts store according to the Kanban principle when the materials for a position are not all carried in the segment store for reasons of volume!
Processing of individual retrievals!

Support for the modification service, etc.!
Compiling statistics!

Hänel's inventory management software controls the Rotomat carousel system. The carousel control unit guides the operating personnel through the store with route optimization.
The conventional warehousing system was replaced by a paperless order picking system ideally suited to the production process. The organization of stock outages, which used to be on a job-related basis, was also abolished. The finished-goods store now contains only small quantities of variants for which there is a continuous demand on the market.
The assets tied up in inventory have been reduced by several million Euros, the rate of turnover has tripled.
