Efficiency, productivity and cost cutting in the auto trade
Practices that have proved their worth in the automobile industry for years are now making their way into the spare parts storerooms and service centers:
Hänel Rotomat carousels and Hänel Lean-Lifts
Hänel Rotomat carousels at V·A·G
Hänel Rotomat carousels in the automobile industry
System redesign proves successful! 2 vertical carousels - Hänel Rotomats - and the Hänel control software have improved parts storage substantially:
75% more space
Better overview of inventory
Time spent at the distribution point slashed
Improved cost structure
The situation
Direct reception of cars, computer diagnostics and workplace redesign have already improved returns in the service center. In the storeroom and distribution point for spare parts, however, in many ways nothing decisive has happened since the introduction of microfilming- And yet, this is an area with huge cost savings and improved systems potential:
Space can be saved
In this example, a storeroom with a floor area of about 30 m2 was needed previously. With the Hänel Rotomat the same number of parts can be housed on about 6.6 m2.
Time can be saved
The required spare parts and hardware can be assembled in advance by means of pre-picking when the cars are received. Non-productive delay times are avoided at the output point.
Personnel can be saved
In our example one member of staff could be taken off storeroom duties and put into production, so improving cost efficiency.
Parts management can be optimized
The modern Hänel microprocessor control units can communicate with in-house data processing installations or be operated as an independent inventory management system. Awareness of the inventory situation is assured at all times, unexpected parts shortages are ruled out and in-process inventory can be reduced.

Quality of working conditions
The Hänel Rotomat eliminates bending and ladder climbing. The parts are brought to the right ergonomic height. This results in improved motivation, lower absentee rates and consequently better performance.
Adaptability
The layout and mechanics of the Rotomat can be adapted to individual requirement profiles. Bulky parts are accommodated on shelves with variable compartment divisions, small parts are stored in containers that also serve as transport bins.
